Be Weird: Normal Isn't Working
Be Weird: Normal Isn't Working - Part 2: Weird Dad
Scripture tells us not to fit in to the norms that culture sets. Instead, we’re supposed to be set apart, holy, even “weird”. So how do you make weird(wise) decisions that will produce desirable outcomes? We can’t listen to our heart because our emotions can easily deceive us. We must start by embracing one simple truth.
It’s a lie so subtle we don’t even notice it. It goes something like this: “It’s normal to have mountains of debt. It’s normal to have unfulfilling relationships. It’s normal to struggle in your faith. It’s normal to give in to temptation.” We normalize the lie when we buy that car we can’t afford or plunge headfirst into relationship after relationship. All the while, we try to ignore the nagging feeling that something’s not right. God says there’s a better way, but getting there means we’ll have to be—well… weird.
In this 6-part series, we’ll see that God doesn’t want us to blend in with the crowd. Instead, He wants us to renovate our minds in such a way that it leads to a different trajectory in life. Let’s get weird!
