X Commandments: Set Free to Live Free
X Commandments: Set Free to Live Free; Part 2 - BIG G vs little g
The first commandment, “You shall have no other gods before me”, is one of the most often forgotten. But God put it first for a reason. If our lives revolved around God, then all of the other commandments; stealing, lying, adultery, etc., wouldn’t be an issue. What would your life look like today if you served, worshiped, and loved no other god but God?
Bottom Line: God’s rules weren’t given to make bad people good, they were given to keep freed people free.
Thirty-five hundred years ago Moses came down from Mt. Sinai with a short list of rules that have shaped values for centuries. It’s one of the most well known events in human history. We know that list as the Ten Commandments, but do we really know them? Throughout history, many have mistakenly viewed the Commandments as conditions for Gods acceptance, or as some type of admissions test to get into heaven. But why did God really give these laws? And how can we apply them to our lives today?
In this series, we’ll tackle the meaning of the Ten Commandments and the context in which God gave them. Though we may have been taught differently, they aren’t conditions for a relationship with God; they are confirmation of one.
